Infant Brain Tumor

Brain tumors are tumors inside the skull. They are among the most common types of childhood cancer. Some benign, not cancer. They can still be serious. Malignant tumorsare cancerous.

Symptoms

• Headaches
• Nausea and vomiting
• Personality changes
• Depression
• Bother to check the muscles
• Seizures
• Vision or speech

Child care is sometimes different from those of adults. In the long term side effects are important. The options depend on the type of cancer and where it is. The removal of the tumor is often possible. Otherwise, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or both can be used.

Types of brain tumors in young children

Ependymal tumors medulloblastoma and represents about 50 percent of the tumors. Most of these tumors develop after birth. The peak incidence within 5 years. Atypical teratoid tumor / rhabdoid tumor and the choroid plexus are more common in children under 2 years.

Incidence

Primary central nervous system tumors represent about 8 percent of cancer in children and 3 percent of malignant tumors seen in infant.

Factors that influence

Children under three who are diagnosed with brain tumors are particularly difficult to treat. Brain tumors in young children tend to grow rapidly, and their prognosis is generally worse for older patients. Medulloblastoma tumors tend to spread in the brain and spine.Treatment should focus on controlling not only local disease, but the disease in all parts of the nervous system. This often requires treatment to be directed against the entire nervous system in young children, and increases the likelihood of brain damage related to treatment.

Clinical features and symptoms

For infant, the most common symptoms of head size rapidly growing and bulging fontanelle (membrane-covered opening in the skull of an infant.) Because of the extensibility of the skull of an infant, symptoms of intracranial pressure, with the exception of vomiting, are rare in infant brain tumor.
