The American Academy of Family Physicians provides advice on a few things to note before pregnant and breast feeding women consume drugs. Breastfeeding tips for mothers who consume drug among others:

  • If you need to take drugs to drink, do it after feeding. It needs to be done so that drugs have the time to be in the body system in a while.
  • In general, drug asetaminophen type is pain relievers are safe for breastfeeding mothers. However, you should consult with your doctor.
  • Do not take medication during breastfeeding because of aspirin can cause bleeding in the mother and the baby’s skin rash.
  • Also avoid the consumption of antihistamine drugs for the long term during breastfeeding.
  • Check whether there are possible side effects of drugs consumed by mothers to infants, especially early symptoms such as difficult breathing or skin rash.
