Women who consume alcohol during pregnancy have a 1% risk of giving birth defect. According to a study carried out by Queens University in Ontario, Canada. Not only that, the fetus exposed to alcohol in the womb can also cause infant susceptible to various diseases. One of them is epilepsy.
Children born to mothers who drank alcohol frequently were more likely to suffer from seizures. Of the 429 pregnant women in this study there were 49 people suffering from fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. Less than 1 percent of the participants had given birth to talent epilepsy, while 6 percent of babies suffering from undiagnosed epilepsy.
The researchers believe that pregnant women who frequently drank alcohol, the fetus in the womb can experience a brain developmental disorder. Epilepsy is not normally caused by electrical activity in the brain. This causes seizures and behavioral changes and loss of consciousness.
Dr. Dan Savage, a neuroscientist at the University of New Mexico, said, “This report is based on fetal growth, which proves alcohol can increase the risk of infants experiencing epilepsy and other neurological disorders.”
That’s why pregnant women are advised not to drink alcohol. Consume alcohol during pregnancy can increase the risk of epilepsy, the fetus in the womb can be miscarriage, and even when born, the baby could also grow into a child’s hyperactive, and can be caused birth defects.
